freddy's birth-toberfest feast!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FREDDY!!

Like I mentioned the other day, I feel like I ALWAYS have to go overboard when it comes to Freddy's birthday. I came up with the idea about a month ago to celebrate his birthday with an Oktoberfest feast (he went to the real Oktoberfest after graduating college). The last day of Oktoberfest in Munich was yesterday, just in time for his birthday.

I spent almost the entire day cooking. Freddy spent almost the entire day upstairs. He was only allowed in the kitchen a few times! Though, it was pretty priceless... he could not figure out what was going on with the slew of seemingly random items in the kitchen (pickles, canned cherries, potatoes...). But, by the time dinner rolled around, he was one happy camper.

On the menu:
Soft Pretzels with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Beer Knockwurst with Onions
Rouladen
German-Style Potato Salad
Poached Leeks
Carrots in Beer
Oma's Black Forest Cake

And of course.... Beer (Staten, to be exact).
